These puzzles are hand crafted in New Zealand. We use Medium Density Fiber board, or MDF which is a by-product of the timber industry. They take quality waste materials and place them under pressure to produce this high quality, well finished board.
The paint we have chosen is child friendly so if pieces are chewed or sucked they won't harm. All the jigsaw pieces have been designed to enhance the overall look of the puzzle. We have given great consideration to the size of each piece to reduce the choking risk.
Learning Fundamentals
Eye-hand co-ordination is fundamental in all processes linked with reading and writing. The depth of the wood used for the puzzles enhances this as it requires pieces to be held horizontally to slide the interlocks correctly together. Spatial awareness is necessary as the pieces of each puzzle only interlock in one particular way. The lack of colour flowing between pieces forces the child to assess each interlock piece before deciding where it fits, cementing the reading and writing foundations of orientation of letters and numbers. Analytical skills are involved in an overall picture concept as well as the partial concept of each piece. This attention to detail on each piece helps the child interlock the pieces to form the whole. Talking through the puzzle building process with your child increases vocabulary and reasoning, enhances their abilities to recognise colour, deduce, analyze, sequence, and develop logical thought and problem solving skills.
